Historic Gardens Walk

The Botanic Garden has a rich history, which is unravelled for you during a 3km walk and a small exhibition at the Castle. You will walk through the various styles of European garden design, from a medieval-inspired garden, through a formal garden with clean lines, to a romantic garden with undulating paths, surrounded by a 19th century English park landscape. 

You will see the many traces of the past that have been left behind and how we are building tomorrow's past today. You will discover the rich history of the estate and its inhabitants, such as Charlotte, princess of Belgium and empress of Mexico, who stayed in the castle for almost half a century.
