Heritage Trees

The oldest trees growing in the Botanic Garden were planted by the former lords of the castle when they reconstructed their estate into an English landscape garden. Our gardeners, in collaboration with experts, do their utmost to preserve these ancient trees for as long as possible.

Go on a discovery tour of the estate, from the tulip tree opposite the Plant Palace, planted in the early 19th century, to the oak tree in the Dahlgren Arboretum, the last  remnant of a lane that used to run through this area. On the path beside the Orangery pond, you will find two grafted chestnuts which bear witness to the 18th century interest in special trees.
