Little Via bird perched in Botanic Garden Meise

Fri 21 Feb

During one of their last meetings, Marjolein Cannoodt's grandmother drew this little bird. She had learned to draw exactly that bird from her mother. Meanwhile, the drawing is five generations on, and the bird lives on in the drawings of Marjolein's children: ‘My grandmother drew the bird in 1 continuous line. I found that amazing as a child, how you can create a simple thought with one line. It made me think. What value does intergenerational transmission still have in our current society?’

Marjolein had the line drawing converted into a metal, bead-blasted artwork that, as in our Botanic Garden, finds a place in nature. You'll find the bird in the Thuja grove, the group of the trees of life, on your right on the way to the Castle, near the Castle Pond.

This bead-blasted stainless steel bird, measuring 40 cm by 60 cm, perches in several places across the country. In autumn 2025, the little Via bird moves on and will stop in other places across the country.
