New picture book 'Penis plants, Arum family'
The Arum family in macro photography
Meise Botanic Garden is home to no fewer than 500 members of the Arum family, which includes the famous titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum). This imaginative plant invariably draws crowds of onlookers to the botanic garden, where it puts on a true spectacle when in bloom.
Maarten Strack van Schijndel has been a volunteer at the botanic garden for many years. He uses macro photography to capture the tiniest details of plants in the arum family. From the Amorphophallus ferruginosus from Laos to the Mediterranean Dracunculus vulgaris and Arisaema flavum from the Himalayas. The photographer brings them into sharp focus in this beautiful picture book.
The book is available in the Garden Shop at Meise Botanic Garden and in our webshop.
