An exhibition that takes you on a poetic walk along Flemish landscapes, including the Botanic Garden Landscapes. To do so, Myriam Thomas first set out on her own with her camera, and then worked with that visual material in an intuitive way. For this exhibition, she made layered photo transfers on glass and alternates them with botanical blueprint prints on glass and on lime paper, or sometimes with cyanotype texture collages on paper. The monumental installation of feathery hanging blue mobiles in the stairwell of the square tower makes a big impression.  This installation evokes the magical atmosphere of a forest in the morning.

Practical

  • The exhibition runs in the square tower of Bouchout Castle
  • To be visited from Friday 4 April to Sunday 31 August 2025
  • The visit to the expo is included in the entrance ticket to the Botanic Garden
  • The expo is not accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs

Myriam Thomas

Myriam Thomas (°1951) lives and works in Betekom (Flemish Brabant). After a career as a chemistry teacher, she chose the glass art course at the IKA in Mechelen. Her graduation installation was selected to represent Belgium in the European Glass Art Biennale in Bornholm-Denmark in 2021. Other curated group exhibitions at home and abroad followed, e.g. ‘Other ways of seeing’ (2022, New York) and Glass Week (2023, Palazzo Loredan - Venice).

Universal stories and emotions of the past and present often form the basis of her artistic work. Since starting her glass art training in 2011, she has been exploring the wide possibilities within this artistic discipline and developing her own artistic language. The discovery, several years ago, of the overlap area between glass art and (analogue) photography has opened up a new world for her.
