At Botanic Garden Meise, discover the fascinating exhibition on Belgian plant hunters from the 19th century. During this period, the new profession of 'plant hunter' emerged. What they collected contributed to the worldwide success of Belgian horticulture. You will learn about what went on during the birth of Belgium, about the involvement of the bourgeoisie in the development of horticulture, and you will follow in the footsteps of the adventurous explorers who went on a voyage of discovery to America.

The exhibition also shows the evolution of these botanical explorations. Driven by the Belgian state and later the private sector, numerous companies were established that imported and further cultivated tropical plants. You will discover the names of the great Belgian collectors, as well as those of their patrons, employers, politicians and wealthy collectors who left their mark on this botanical quest.
