Summary

I’m developing ex situ conservation programs for endangered species, in support of their in situ conservation. This includes studies on seed viability and storage behaviour, the development of propagation protocols, and the restoration (reintroduction) of populations into the wild. I have a particular interest in the use of seed banks as a tool to investigate recent adaptation to global change (resurrection ecology). I’m also involved in research on evolutionary aspects in ex-situ collections and possible consequences on the establishment of reintroduced populations. I’m an active member of international consortia dealing with seed conservation and research supporting ecosystem restoration, such as the European Native Seed Conservation Network, the Ecological Restoration Alliance of Botanic Gardens, and the International Network for Seed-based Restoration.
